Beethovenfest 2025
16 – 27 September 2025
Opera Bonn / Forecourt Frankenbad Bonn / Frankenbad Bonn
Live music in a swimming pool · resonant façades · night-time video projection

Photos by Philip Kistner
The listed 1960s Frankenbad in Bonn becomes a permeable surface for AQUARIUM. Wellenbad transforms the façade into a medium of sound and image: during the day its profiles vibrate almost invisibly – barely seen, yet audible to those passing by. At night, four projection surfaces open like windows into water. Figures appear within them, their gazes refracted through gentle waves.
It begins with a real aquarium: an underwater loudspeaker sets the water in motion, making sound visible. Curious visitors lean in, becoming part of the situation – their gazes recorded, mirrored, transformed.
From these encounters emerges an installation that lets the site look back.
The project concludes with a concert by Wellenbad together with Maxine Troglauer (bass trombone) and Kira Linn (baritone saxophone). Brass instruments and live electronics merge into a sonic experience for a swimming audience in water.
